How does Illinois look at dual credit courses

How does Illinois look at dual credit courses “Dual credit” means that students are able to earn both high school and college credit simultaneously. Many students who take these courses have questions about how they will transfer into their college or university, whether they should be applying as freshmen or transfers, and how it will impact their GPA. I’ll be answering these questions and more in this blog. In order to find out if your dual credit course will transfer to Illinois, you should create an account on Transferology. Once you have created your account, a simple step-by-step process can show you all the courses that have been reviewed for transfer to Illinois from your previous institution. If a course is not listed on the website, it doesnt mean necessarily that it is not transferable; it means that we have never reviewed that particular course for transfer. Even if you already have a lot of college credits, you will be considered a freshman applicant at Illinois, as long as you have not graduated from high school and enrolled as a degree-seeking student at a post-secondary institution for more than 10 school days. Even students who are in “running start” programs where they’re able to earn their Associates degree and high school diploma concurrently are still considered freshmen because they have not earned their high school diploma when they apply for admission to Illinois. Finally, keep in mind that when you send your official post-secondary transcript to Illinois, your grade(s) will be factored into your cumulative GPA. Also, remember that you can’t pick and choose which courses you want to transfer to Illinois. This means that if the transferable course(s) and grade(s) are listed on the transcript from your post-secondary institution, then the credit and grade will be applied toward your Illinois record. I hope that this answered any questions that you may have regarding dual credit coursework and how Illinois treats your credits and grade(s). As always, let me know in the comments if you have any questions, and be sure to study up!
